Block Party

Community Block Parties

Last summer, sixteen block party hosts registered their parties with the community association. In doing so, they each received the following from the Rocky Ridge-Royal Oak Community Association (RRROCA) in support of their parties:

  • $100 toward party food, supplies or attractions.

  • A block party ‘boot-camp’ to share ideas and inform hosts of how the city can help.

  • An invitation template (if desired).

  • Getting the word out to your neighbours through this publication and/or our website (if desired).

  • Advisory and other support from enthusiastic community association volunteers (if desired).

RRROCA will be supporting block parties again this year in the hopes that many more will be planned in our community this summer. We will support the first 20 hosts to register their parties with $100 toward their party expenses, and will support all hosts in the other ways listed above. To register your own party please call or e-mail to Mike before April 30th. You can reach him at (403) 239-5210 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Become a Dog Ambassador

There are approximately 1000 dogs within Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak. Why not consider becoming a Dog Ambassador?

The Dog Ambassador program is part of the Natural Areas Adopt a Park Program. This is a volunteer program to help us get involved with the health and beauty of our natural parks. There is also an Adopt a park program for the manicured parks as well. Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak each have approximately 30+ parks that need to be adopted.

I invite you to contact Sonia Gonsalves of the City to volunteer your time for our beautiful community. Her phone number is 403-537-7523 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Or if you feel more comfortable please contact Erin Stabbler at the community e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

What’s Your “Cause”?
If you could accomplish anything in the world, what would it be?  Would you eradicate poverty and malnutrition?  Rid the world of cancer or AIDS?  Make the world a greener, cleaner, and more ‘natural’ place?  What would you do?

What if we brought that initial question to bear on our Rocky Ridge-Royal Oak community?  If you could accomplish anything in our community, what would it be?

In his book, Good to Great, Jim Collins explains that – while it’s good to have a great goal – you should not expect to achieve your mission or vision over night.  Rather, he describes how the process of achieving your desired results resembles relentlessly pushing a giant, heavy flywheel in one direction. At first, it might seem like you’re hardly making any progress at all.  Soon, pushing it gets the flywheel to turn once. With consistent effort, it goes two turns, then five, then ten, building increasing momentum until – bang! – the wheel hits the breakthrough point, and the momentum kicks in its favour.  In short, if you really want to accomplish something big, you need to commit to it and invest yourself in it over the long haul.

If you want to ‘push a flywheel’ that will benefit your neighbours and our community in general, please contact Mike at 403.239.5210 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Do You Have a Story to Tell?
The Federation of Calgary Communities, in partnership with the Calgary Real Estate News (CREN®), is looking for great community story ideas. If you know anyone (or anything!) that promotes a sense of community or builds a sense of belonging in Rocky Ridge-Royal Oak, pleases submit your idea to Mike Kuhn ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or write a draft of your story and send it to him. Your story will appear in future editions of this publication and will be submitted to CREN for consideration. If your story is selected, a freelance writer will publish it in CREN.

Tell a Story About Someone Else
The Rocky Ridge-Royal Oak Community Association has hundreds of members who volunteer their time and energies to benefit others. We would like your help in identifying some of those great volunteers and writing feature articles about them in this publication. If you are interested in interviewing other residents of our community and writing an article about them, or if you know someone we might want to interview, please contact Mike Kuhn at 403.239.5210 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
